Welcome and Hello

Hello!

My name is Ada, and I'm a pre-undergraduate student (just finished my A-levels) about to study for a degree in Physics with Astrophysics. A-level results come out a week today, and I'm hoping to go to the University of Manchester, for which I'll need the grades A*A*A next week. My A-level subjects were Physics, Maths, and English Literature (an eclectic mix, I know).

During the application period for UK universities, which was September 2021 for me, I began to lose sight of the enjoyment of physics while searching for things to put on my application statements, working hard for grades and completing an EPQ (with a LOT of extra reading) on dark matter and dark energy. So, I've made this blog, which I hope will inspire interest in young people and adults in physics.

Although I'm not a qualified physics professional, I will be using this blog to do plenty of research, and write posts on questions I've had and found the answers to, as well as any questions you (the readers!) choose to ask in the comments section. I'll do my best to find answers, but I appreciate corrections and new information too.

As a member of the British Interplanetary Society (BIS), I receive the monthly magazine, SpaceFlight, which has inspired this blog. The publication is meant for hobby physicists and professionals alike, and while reading I often have further questions: how does that work? why have they done that? how can I do that? I want to answer these questions somewhere I can come back to and somewhere it can help others too.

So welcome! Look around! Tell me what you think in the comments, ask questions (it doesn't matter how silly you think they are), and enjoy!

A. Astra
